We are glad to present you the special issue of the “Goama” newsletter, including the report from the 50th European Go Championship (Italy).

Some results first:
1. Main tournament (first 5 rounds). There are 10 rounds in total, so it’s hard to imagine the final standing.

Few words about the leaders: Park Chi Seon, 6-dan is the younger brother of the well-known Korean amateur and Baduk-writer, Park Chi Moon, 7-dan. Nowadays in Korea it’s hard to show good results in local tournaments, because of strong ex-inseis. I saw Park Chi Seon’s face lot of times during the amateur tournaments, but cannot remember any tournaments he won.
Lee Ki Bong, 7-dan is the professor of Myongji University. He showed good results by winning 3 or 4 Korean amateur tournaments in the middle of 90’s. Nowadays in Korea he is not playing Go actively. We saw him during the last few Go Congresses and on some European Tournaments (Germany, Lithuania, etc). He is always taking prize-places.
Kai Nayouki, 6-dan is often playing in Go Congresses. As well as I remember, his best result was 5th place in EGC-2000 in Zagreb. Last year in Prague he was 19th.
The author of this report – Alexander Dinershteyn (“breakfast” on KGS) is on the 4th place. You may read about him here: www.breakfast.go4go.net
5th on the list is Geert Groenen, 6-dan, one of the top Dutch players. As well as I know, he never occupied prize-places on European Championship.
Svetlana Shikshina (“redrose” on KGS) is on the 6th place. It was hard for her to play here after the seaside trip on Wednesday. She stayed on the sun too much and now her skin is red (as well as her brother’s Ilya).
I don’t know much about Shinada Kei and Vit Brunner.
Andrey Kulkov, the European Champion-2001 is on the 9th place. Recently he is studying hardly at the university and has almost no time to study Go.
Shikshin Ilya (“roln111” on KGS is on the 10th place). Both Andrey and Ilya lost surprisingly in the first round to Peter Zandveld and Rudi Verhagen (both from Netherlands, 98 and 97 places on EGC-2005).

You may see, that there are 4 Russians in top 10. The other European masters did not show us yet their real power. Dragosh Bajenaru is 15th, Ondrei Silt is 34th (he was 1hour and 2 min. late during the 3rd round and lost the game on time).

The next round will be very important. The pairs must be:
1.Park Chi Seon vs Ilya Shikshin
2.Lee Ki Bong vs Kulkov Andrey
I can play both Svetlana or Shinada Kei

Good news: Finally the organizers solved the internet-access problem and you will get a chance to see the first board game life-translation on KGS. The round will start at 10 AM Italian time.

Other results: Lot of strong players ignored the Week-end tournament, which was won by Lee Ki Bong, 7-dan with the perfect 5 from 5 score.
The European Masters tournament:
1. Svetlana Shikshina
2. Ilya Shikshin
3. Alexander Dinerchtein
4. Dragosh Bajenaru
5-8: Ondrei Silt, Csaba Mero, Geert Groenen and Andrey Kulkov.

The weather is getting better (last week it was +35C), so I believe the games will be exciting. At least, I will try to play better than before.

At the attachment you can see the review of my game with Park Chi Seon, 6-dan from the 3rd round.
The other game records with my commentaries are available on www.go4go.net/v2 in Commentary section.

Quiz answer: It’s the picture of Yoda Norimoto’s, wedding with Hara Sachiko, 3-dan in 1998. Nobody send us the right answer. You thought that he is : Rin Kaiho, Luo Xihe, Yoo Changhyuk, Jijo Jiang, Chang Hao …
I will try to make it easier next time. Sorry!
