World Go news

Chunlan cup.
The results were quite surprising. Both Lee Changho and Lee Sedol lost their games and let 4(!) Chinese masters enter the semifinals.
The director of the Chinese Weiqi Assosiation Hua Yigang, 8-dan mentioned that this tournament "starts the new page of Go history".
Now they think, that Chinese masters are not much weaker than Korean. Do you think so too?
You can see the tournament table and game records here: http://www.go4go.net/v2/modules/tournament/scorechart.php?key=5-6-s24f
The final match between Gu Li, 9-dan and Chang Hao, 9-dan will be played in March, 2007. The score between two masters is 7-3 in favor of Chang, but they did not meet each other since December, 2005.
The first prize is 150.000 USD, the second one is 50.000.
In my opinion (A.D.), Gu Li's chances are higher, but it's hard to imagine what will happened. It will be an interesting battle!

Song Yunhae, 1-dan (14 y.o.) who was born in North Korea, but got the professional status in China, won the Chinese Individual Woman Championship-2006 with an excellent score: 8-1. She became a professional less than one year ago! Song is learning Go since 5 years old and her favorite master is Lee Sedol, 9-dan.
We know, that Song is playing Go on Tygem server and she easily reached 9-dan (the highest rank) with an outstanding 58-2 score. You can see her photo at the attachment.

The 1st "Teri" Professional Woman World Go Championship will be held in China from November 25 to November 29.
The first prize is about 13.000 USD. The members list is not yet decided, but we know the number of open places from each country:
China -8
Korea and Japan -6
Europe -2
Taiwan and USA -1
