Interview with Yang Yi, (the main coach of Chinese National Pro team)
Seoul, May 17, 2006 (after the 2nd round of the LG cup)

After the 1/16 of the 11th LG cup Yang Yi told us that Xie He, 6-dan (China) has good chances against Lee Sedol, 9-dan (Korea). We can see, that he was right (Xie He, 6-dan won by resignation). Now, after the 1/8 stage of the tournament, we would like to ask him again.
- What do you think about the game between Xie He and Lee Sedol?
- Lee played badly; some of his moves were on amateur level. After his early lose on the left side the game was almost hopeless for him.
- You told us, that Xie He had better chances against Lee. Can you explain us your opinion?
- Lee Sedol’s Go style is not perfect. He is so proud of his fighting power and is always trying to crush his opponents. You may know, that in some positions it’s a wrong strategy, sometimes you have to prepare first and wait for your future chances. Lee Sedol’s game against Chang Hao, 9-dan (China) in the first round was also dangerous for him in the middle of the game, but Chang was not able to punish him under the time pressure.
- What do you think about the game between Gu Li, 9-dan and Ko Keuntae, 5-dan?
- Gu Li made some strange mistakes in the opening, but later he fight well during the complicated battles
- What can you tell us about another games of Chinese masters during the second round?
- I did not observe much the game of Chen Yaoye, 5-dan (China). His opponent - Kim Donghee, 2-dan (Korea) is much weaker than him. I was sure about the result of their game. Yu Bin’s game against Cho Hanseung, 9-dan (Korea) was good for Yu, but he lost it during the endgame trades.
- 4 Chinese masters entered the 1/4 of the tournament (also 3 from Korea, 1 from Taiwan, A.D.). What do you think about this result?
- I am not 100% satisfied, but quite happy.
- All Japanese masters failed to reach 1/4 of LG cup. Is it normal?
- Recently we can often see this situation.
- Is it true, that the pairing of the next round is favorable for Chinese players?
- Xie He is the luckiest one in Chinese team. I believe, that his chances against Zhou Junxun, 9-dan (Taiwan) are really high. I think that 2-3 Chinese masters can enter the next stage. Probably we will see 3 Chinese vs 1 Korean competition
- What do you think about the chances of Hu Yaoyu, 8-dan (China) in his game against Lee Changho, 9-dan (Korea)?
- The results of Hu Yaoyu, 8-dan on international scene are not so high, but everything depends on Lee Chanho’s condition (the next round will take place in October). I believe, that each side has 50%.

The best part of scuba diving is not the dive itself but the adrenaline rush at buying scuba gear. Of course one gauges other water sports like to snorkel at the same level too.
